ABOUT

Brooklyn born writer/performer/producer/singer/songwriter Marla Mase, known for her gutsy, raw performance style and thought-provoking lyrics, has been a long-time beacon of artistic innovation on the NYC music and theatre scenes.

Her vision is informed and illuminated by her gritty, poetic, and oftentimes humorous take on the human condition.  She has performed for rapturous audiences from the Bowery to Beijing and has had her plays/rock operas performed at legendary venues such as La MaMa ETC, Nuyorican Poets Café, NYC Summerstage, NJPac and SXSW to name a few. Marla’s work has been featured in taste-making platforms such as Huff Post, Vents Magazine, Big Takeover, No Depression, Daytrotter, Paste Magazine, The Deli, American Blues Scene, PopDose, RockNYC, Scandalous Women, Music Crowns, etc. Marla will be returning to the UK to do a Summer 2024 festival tour in support of her 9th album Infinite They Went… on True Groove Records. It will also be Marla’s first official vinyl release. She is currently on an east coast theatrical tour with Being Somebody, a show she created and stars in with her father Dr. Howard Mase.

"Mase, a rising star and buzzed-about figure within New York’s underground rock ‘n’ roll scene, isn’t the kind of female artist we’ve gotten used to hearing in the post-millennial music circuit. In an age where two of the biggest stars on the planet are female artists who take inspiration from classic singer/songwriter traditions, Mase goes unapologetically in the other direction. Her songs are dark, atmospheric, and gritty, and littered with shades of punk rock history."
